How do students get into Eagle Academy?
Students must submit an application to Sandy Davis or Melinda Moberg. Students will then be selected for entrance interviews based on seniority, current credits, attitude/behavior at RTHS along with any other special circumstances that are applicable. New students are usually only accepted at semester break.
How can students make up credits at Eagle Academy?
- Eagle offers a new teacher-taught class every quarter which means 4 every year
- Students have the ability to earn credit outside of teacher taught classes by completing independent study courses or online classes through http://www.novelstars.com. Both independent study courses and online classes can be worked on anywhere, including at home.
Does Eagle use semesters or quarters?
Eagle Academy runs on a 4 quarter system with new teacher taught classes about every 9 weeks.
What if my student is only behind a 1/2 credit or so?
Eagle Academy also offers a part-time afternoon program for students still attending the high school. Your student would attend RTHS during the normal school day and after they are let out at 3:05pm, they would then come to Eagle until 4pm.
What is the student to staff ratio at Eagle Academy?
Eagle has 4 full-time staff, not including our principal (Megan Anderson), and about 25 full-time students which works out to a ratio of about 1 staff member for every 6 students.
What is the website that Eagle students use for their online coursework?
Eagle Academy uses Apex Learning. The log-in page for Apex can be found at https://www.apexvs.com
How is punishment handled at Eagle Academy?
For minor infractions, such as swearing or rude behavior, students will be given points. If a student accrues 10 points in a week or commits an egregious act they will be given a strike and sent home for the day. 3 strikes and the student is dismissed from Eagle Academy and sent back to RTHS.
How is attendance calculated at Eagle Academy?
Students are expected to attend every day. Exact records of attendance are kept and if students are more than 10 hours behind after 2 weeks, they will receive a strike.
Is it true that my student can get credit for working a job outside of school?
Yes. If students are employed for at least 10 hours a week and are able to provide a legitimate pay stub to prove it, they can receive a half credit every quarter that they maintain that job.
What do I do if my student is sick or not able to make it into Eagle today?
Please give us a call at (217) 892-6002 and let us know. The student will still need to make these hours up, but we like to keep track or our students and their absences.
What are Eagle Academy's hours?
Teachers arrive at 7:45am and leave at 3:20pm. Classes start at 9am and end at 12pm.
How does Eagle Academy handle lunch?
Students receive lunch much the same way they would at the high school. They select hot lunch, sandwich or salad and then their food is shipped from RTHS out to the Eagle Academy building at lunch time. Students are expected to handle all applicable fees. Eagle is part of the free and reduced lunch program.
Is Eagle Academy an open campus?
No. When students arrive at Eagle Academy, they are expected to stay the full day unless they receive permission.
How do I check my student's grades?
